Envato Rebrand

Envato, a leading marketplace for creative assets introduced a comprehensive rebrand that includes a fresh visual and sonic identity. This move signifies a major shift for one of the most influential brands in the creative industry, aiming to better reflect their evolving mission and to inspire their creative community. By redefining who they are and what they stand for, Envato seeks to ignite inspiration and empower creatives, especially those always chasing better ways to bring ideas to life.

“Bold, vibrant, and reflective of Envato’s spirit, this rebrand symbolizes our evolution and unwavering commitment to supporting creatives,” says Envato’s CEO, Hichame Assi. “We’re excited to continue empowering our creative community and hope the refreshed Envato will inspire them to make their mark on the world.”

Visual Identity

At the heart of Envato’s rebrand is a redesigned logo and visual identity that reflect the company’s dedication to empowering creatives. Inspired by the humble marker pen, the new logo captures both the essence of Envato and the creativity and passion of its community. Before embarking on the redesign, Envato sought to define what they stood for as a brand, aiming to reflect their upbeat, vibrant energy and commitment to the community while capturing the moment inspiration strikes—that exhilarating buzz of bringing a creative idea to life.

After twelve sketchbooks, fifteen markers, and countless designs, Envato landed on their new logo, comprising the ‘Creative Spark’, a symbol of energy and dynamism to fuel creativity and the ‘Dynamic Dot’, representing each creative individual making their unique mark on the world.

The clean, contemporary custom wordmark was designed by Envato author and Norwegian-based designer Milos Mitrovic, who also crafted their new brand typeface, Poly Sans. Milos collaborated with Envato’s in-house team across continents to transform their vision into reality, embodying one of the most essential elements of the Envato brand—their community.

“Creating Envato’s new logo and wordmark was one of the most successful and memorable collaborations I’ve had in my career,” says Milos. “This project was a collaborative effort between Envato’s creative team and I, and after exchanging many ideas, we landed on the creative spark—a mark representing the energy that Envato brings to inspire creativity.”

Design System

Envato has also refreshed its entire design system to align with the vibrant, modern look of the new logo. This includes a reimagined color palette featuring the bold and brighter Envato Green — a vibrant, effervescent hue that breathes fresh energy into the brand. In addition to Envato Green, the palette introduces Jalapeno, a dark green for depth, Soft Serve, a subtle cream for warmth and Dark Bubble Gum, an energetic purple for that extra pop. These new colors reflect Envato’s commitment to creativity, collaboration, and community, embodying the dynamic way creatives work and innovate. The refreshed visual identity will be rolled out across Envato’s marketing materials and digital platforms — including their website and apps.

“Those who’ve been part of our journey know how much heart and passion exists in the creative community we have cultivated,” says Envato’s Chief Marketing Officer, Noelle Kim. “We wanted to evolve our brand to capture the feeling we hope to evoke in our community every time they interact with our brand and product: a sense of energy and a drive to do things differently.”

Sonic Identity

To cap off its new brand presence, Envato has unveiled a sonic identity that brings its creative spirit to life audibly. The company partnered with K. Sparks, an NYC-based composer and contributor to popular Envato Author SyncHits, to craft a sound that captures the essence of the Envato brand—authentic, passionate, dynamic, and inherently creative. While capturing the essence of an entire brand in one sound wasn’t easy, K’s infectious positivity combined with Envato’s vibrant new brand resulted in a sonic identity that’s as energetic as it is unexpected. This new sonic branding anchors Envato’s rebrand, showcasing a bold push into a vibrant new era and embodying their commitment to creativity, collaboration, and community.

“I wanted Envato’s sonic branding to empower creatives to be bold, daring, and unique,” says K. Sparks. “A few initial sonic sketches were great but not bold enough, so we revisited, iterated, and challenged ourselves to push the boundaries, ultimately creating the perfect sonic representation of Envato’s brand.”

Website

In addition to the new logo and sonic branding, Envato rolled out a revamped website to enhance various aspects of its platform. The new site not only looks better but also functions better, featuring a modernized UI and enhanced UX to create a cohesive, creative journey.

My Thoughts

Envato’s rebrand is intriguing because it’s extremely loud… and I like loud because loud means bold. I think Envato recognizes the creative landscape, especially the creatives on their platform and wanted to make a statement. To me, the rebrand conveys two things: 1) “We see you and we hear you” (addressing the creatives on the platform) and 2) “You guys are killing it, so we’ll tap in.”

The sonic identity is different, I’ve sometimes thought about how jingles were popular back in the day. We actually remember brands by their jingles which is actually kind of crazy — everybody knows McDonald’s “Im lovin’ it”. Although this isn’t a jingle, I think brands should go back to the days of jingles (or “sonic identities” for the sophisticated folks). Even SaaS companies—there’s nothing wrong with a jingle for your favorite project management software. The rebrand is a great move for Envato overall and I’m excited to see how they expand it over time across digital and physical channels.
